Thanks to the commitment that our employees have shown to several voluntary projects, NH volunteers! has firmly established itself as an important aspect of our Strategic Plan as a vehicle for social action that promotes solidarity and responsibility values with the most needy. The initiatives where employee volunteers put their skills and know-how at the service of every project are particularly outstanding, and their coaching tasks are invaluable.

Proyects

HOTEL-SCHOOL IN ETHIOPIA

1. HOTEL-SCHOOL IN ETHIOPIA

Together with Manos Unidas and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) we have been developing this project since 2010 to promote the socio-economic development of the Tigray region, including the prior assessment and the collaboration of two employee volunteers who travelled there. Other volunteers from different departments also collaborated remotely to make the project a reality by 2012. 

TRACK THE TALENT

2. TRACK THE TALENT

Track the Talent is a foundation that focuses on improving the employability of young people with low levels of education through effective training and employment orientation programmes. Our employee volunteers in Amsterdam, Amersfoort or Utrecht have participated since 2009 in kitchen and restaurant workshops organised in the hotels.

COACH PROJECT

3. COACH PROJECT

Together with EXIT Foundation we have design projects in which our volunteer employees receive a practical training on coaching and mentoring techniques before supporting and assessing young people at risk of social exclusion. Employees receive prior practical training on coaching and mentoring techniques.

GIVE & GAIN

4. GIVE & GAIN

We actively participated in the III Give and Gain International Week for Employee Volunteering, a reference initiative in Europe that currently develops projects in 16 countries. Employee volunteers participated as coaches, sharing their experience and knowledge in order to awaken the professional interest of people at risk of exclusion.

CHRISTMAS FOR ALL

5. CHRISTMAS FOR ALL

It is our longest running volunteer initiative, employees from all Business Units collaborate with food, clothing and toys for the most needy. Each Business Unit delivers its aid to different local entities in order to maintain the commitment to communities.

EARTH HOUR

6. EARTH HOUR

Since 2009, we have been participating in the World Wildlife Fund’s global initiative “Earth Hour”, in which our hotels take part by switching off their outside lighting for one hour, considerably reducing their energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Furthermore, numerous activities were organised to involve the customers in this campaign against climate change: special candle-light menus, urns for sharing wishes for the planet, social media contests, etc.

AWARENESS WEEK AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE

7. AWARENESS WEEK AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE

Since 2012, when we signed in Spain an agreement with the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality to support and give a higher profile to the actions against gender violence, together with another 30 leading social responsibility companies, we have put into action a series of initiatives to make our employees aware on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence.

FURNITURE DONATION FROM REFURBISHED HOTELS

8. FURNITURE DONATION FROM REFURBISHED HOTELS

In line with the our Repositioning Plan, a protocol has been drawn up to coordinate the donation of the hotel's removed furniture and its no-longer used facilities, to foundations, NGOs, social institutions and people without resources.
