Museums in Andorra

• The National Automobile Museum – this museum illustrates the changes that have been made to the automobile over the years, from 1885 up until the 1970’s. The exhibited models are part of the largest collection in Europe. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 09.30 to 13.30 and 15.00 to 18.00, and Saturday and Sunday, 10.00 to 14.00.  
• Casa de la Vall – is the seat of the National Parliament. It is a building distinguished by its historical connotations and a popular attraction for tourists. Admission is free but with guided visits only, and it’s recommended to book in advance. Open Monday to Saturday, 9.30 -13.00 and 15.00 -18.00, Sundays and public holidays 10.00 -14.00.  
• The Perfume Museum – a popular tourist attraction with an audiovisual presentation, bottle displays, and a shop selling pieces from designers. The visit takes about an hour, and it’s open Tuesday to Friday 10.00 to 13.00 and 16.00 to 20.00, Saturdays, and Sunday mornings.

• The Escaldes-Engordany Art Centre - located within a historical building, this art gallery displays a selection of Catalan artist’s sculptures. There is also a room with temporary exhibitions of various themes and formats. Open Monday to Friday, 09.30 to 13.30 and 15.00 to 19.00, and Saturday 09.30 to 13.30.  
• Art Gallery Pilar Riberaygua – Holds temporary exhibitions from internationally renowned artists, as well as showcasing young local artist’s works. Open Monday to Friday, 10.00 to 14.00 and 16.00 to 20.00.

Cultural activities in Andorra

• Bagpipers Gathering – this has taken place in Andorra for as long as can be remembered. Each year bagpipers gather to keep the legend of Ordino alive and celebrate its history and musical heritage.  
• Narciso Yepes International Festival – since 1983 this festival of music has taken place in Andorra, to celebrating international music, and was originally started by Narciso Yepes who is best known for being one of the most successful classical guitar players, and inventor of the 10 chord guitar.

Historic monuments in Andorra

• La Margineda Bridge – running over the country’s main river, this bridge is one of the few remaining Romanesque bridges from the 12h century.  
• Sant Joan de Caselles – this building dates back to the 12th century in the style of other Romanesque churches. Inside there is an altarpiece dating back to the 16th century, and located on the church grounds is the Museum of Two Wheels, explaining the history of the motorcycle from the beginning of the 20th century. Open 15th June to 15th September everyday, 10.00 to 13.00 and 16.00 to 19.00. 

Shopping in Andorra

• The main fashion and jewellery shops are found on Avenida Meritxell in Andorra la Vella and on the Avenida Carlemany in Escaldes–Engordany. For the best selection of music, go to the large shopping centres or shops in Andorra la Vella, Escaldes–Engordany or Sant Julià de Lòria. There are also many snow sports shops, because Andorra is very popular with winter tourism. Wherever you go, you’re likely to find the prices cheaper than in most European countries.

• Snow sports – Andorra is a popular winter destination and the main resorts for snow sports are: Grandvalira, Pas de la Casa/Grau Roig, Pal/Arinsal and Soldeu/El Tarter.  

Day trip

• 1_Hiking – Take some time to explore the many trails and paths through the mountains and villages of the Pyrenees by going hiking: The trails are well signposted and aren’t too difficult either, so are suitable for most people.
• 2_4x4 Off Road Jeep Excursion – If Hiking isn’t your thing, then you should try this off road experience: There are many roads that aren’t suitable for normal cars, so to experience the real Andorra you need a 4x4. Journeys are only recommended from June to October, and not during the months with snow.
