Historic monuments in Göttingen

• Altes Rathaus: This was the town hall until 1978, and now houses the Tourist Office  
• Half-timbered houses: The city was not bombed during the war therefore this region still has many old wooden 16th and 17th century houses which are in remarkably good shape conditions  
• Gänseliesel: The fountain outside the Altes Rathaus is Göttingen's most famous figure known as the most kissed girl in the world as all local students kiss here after graduating  
• Synagogue Memorial: This memorial stands on the site of a synagogue that was destroyed in 1938, and the names of Jewish residents who were murdered during the "dark time" are listed below an abstract of the Star of David
