Museums in Trier

• Bishop’s Museum (Bischoefliches Museum) - The Bishop's Museum is housed in a 19th-century building near Trier Cathedral. Once a Prussian prison, the building now houses the art collection of the Diocese of Trier, including much early Christian art. Open Monday to Saturday 09:00 - 17:00, and Sundays 13:00 - 17:00.  
• Karl Marx House museum - is the house in Trier in which Karl Marx was born in 1818. It is now a museum documenting the history of communism in the Soviet Union, China, Central and Eastern Europe.  
• Archaeological Museum - located near the Imperial Baths, this museum has the richest collection of Roman finds in Germany; it has so many pieces, only a small part of the collection can be exhibited. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 - 17:00  
• Toy-Museum  
• Municipal Museum - provides an insight into the town's history since 1958. Displays include a model of the town circa 1800, sculptures, paintings, arts and crafts, Coptic textiles, furniture and small sculptures from the Far East. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 - 18:00.

Cultural activities in Trier

• International Festival of Wine & Culture - around 100 wine, food and cultural events take place in the Moselle, Saar and Ruwer region, in Luxembourg, the Eifel and the Hunsrück.  
• Moselle Festival - music festival with lots of different events in Trier and the Moselle region.  
• Trier Antiquity Festival - includes opera and musicals based on contemporary interpretations of mythological themes and modern adaptations of ancient material.  
• Roman Games - "Brot und Spiele" takes place every year between the 15th and the 18th of August. There are several gladiator fights and the ancient thermal baths hosts a mystic night (“Nox Mystica”) with its amazing light and sound effects in the ruins of the baths, as well as a traditional handicraft market and much more.

• The Porta Nigra - the best preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps  
• Roman Bridge - the 2nd century AD Roman bridge across the Moselle River, the oldest bridge north of the Alps still crossed by traffic

• 3_Zurlauben: On the banks of the Mosel, directly next to the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge, you can visit an enchanting little lane: Zurlauben Embankment. Also located here is the city dock for excursion boats, some of which come from Cologne or Coblenz.
• 4_Trier: Luxembourg- Echternach: Drive along the Luxembourg Upper Mosel to Remich, continuing to Luxembourg City on a bus tour. After continuing trough Luxemburg’s “Little Switzerland” to the cathedral city of Echternach, you can return to Trier via the Sure Valley and Igel.
