Historic monuments in Florence

• Palazzo Vecchio: A former medici residence, which has been used as the Tuscan governement building for many centuries  
• Santa Maria Novella: A beautiful church which contains great artwork and architecture as well as some early spanish frescos  
• Pitti Palace: The former Medici family palace contains galleries of their art and treasures  
• Ponte Vecchio: The oldest and most famous bridge over the Arno; the only Florentine bridge to survive WW2, and is covered in shops only selling local jewellery  
• Church of Santa Croce: Contains the monumental tombs of Galileo, Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Dante, and many other notables in addition to artistic decorations  
• Duomo: Enormous cathedral built in the 15th century with wonderful fresco paintings, along with the Giotto Tower which you can climb and the battistero with its magnificent golden doorway 

Shopping in Florence

• 1) Markets; San Lorenzo Market: open everday day selling a range of clothing, jewellery, leatherware and souvenirs (Piazza San lorenzo). Mercato delle Pulce: market aimed specifically at antiques, great deals available on art, furniture, clothing held on the first sunday of each month (Piazza Ciompi). Cascine Market: cheap clothes and knick-knacks held every morning (viale Lincoln)### 2) Shopping Districts; Via Calzuoli, Piazza del Duomo, The Mall in Leccio Reggello (Via Artina n° 63, tel. 055 8657775) and almost anywhere south of the Duomo down to the river is full of shops from boutiques to the most famous chains.### 

Day trip

• 1) Florence Bike Tours; a variety of tours through the tuscan countryside which include viewing of villas, lunch and winetastings: There are a variety of levels from very easy rides to quite challenging ones.
• 2) Food Tours; You will be able to taste authentic Florentine foods and learn about the different oils, wines, cheeses, coffees, gelatos, olives, meats, and more
• 3) Big Red Bus Tour; an open top tourist bus which has 15 stops dotted around the city centre and some of the more important places in the suburbs, a great way to see the city and once you have bought a ticket you can just hop-on and hop-off

Group activities

• 1) There are a variety of city tours which are available in nearly every language: These tours usually are half day tours of the city centre which encompasses most of the important monuments and sites in the city centre. They normally start from the Duomo.
• 2) Museums; Almost all museums offer group tours with a specialist tour guide in most languages, so that tourists can really understand and experience what they are seeing: However smaller museums may offer just an audio guide.
