Museums in Palermo

• International Marionettes Museum - contains the most complete, important collection of “pupi” or puppets in the world, together with the stage equipment needed for the traditional shows, the collection includes about 3500 examples of puppets, marionettes and hand puppets from all over the world, all made by hand according to the antique craftsmen’s traditional techniques.  
• Museo Archeologico Regionale - large number of artifacts from the whole of Sicily, including the islands, and also to archaeological finds from the Etruscan, Phoenician and Greek eras, these important collections are testimony of Sicilian art, from prehistoric times to the late Roman period.  
• Museum of Islam - housed in the wonderful Castello della Zisa, holds the testimony of Arabic culture in Sicily.  
• The Sicilian Regional Gallery - houses some paintings completed in Sicily between the 11th and the 17th centuries, Arabic inlaid-wood objects, Moorish pottery and some marble sculptures.

• The Cathedral of Palermo - Honey-coloured and Catalan influenced, it is the burial place of many noblemen and town heroes from the city's history.  
• Zisa and the Cuba - Arabic-Norman royal palaces.  
• Palazzo dei Normanni - A grand old residence with some incredible mosaics including those in the famous Cappella Palatina.  
• Gesu Church - Is one of the most architecturally important highly decorated in Palermo and was constructed between 1564–1633.  
• San Giovanni degli Eremiti - A beautiful renaissance church with an old church ruin and a nice garden.  
• Catacombe dei Cappuccini - Containing over 8000 mummified ex-residents from Palermo and its surrounding villages, although fascinating this is not a place for the faint-hearted
