Museums in Fuerteventura

• Alcogida Ecomuseum – a recreation of a rural town in Fuerteventura, this museum has 7 traditional homes, and highlights include a bakery, animals, camel rides, workshops, and many activities aimed at children of all ages. Open Tuesday to Friday and Sunday 09.30 to 17.30. Free for children under 12 years and discounts exist for seniors, children over 12 and groups.  
• Cuevo de Llanos Visitor Centre and Museum – guided tours of one of the oldest and largest caves in Fuerteventura. There are tours throughout the day, accessing the cave through a volcanic tube. Visitors will discover how these caves were formed, the ecosystem in the caves, and the general evolution of the area. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 18.00.

Exhibitions / Art galeries Fuerteventura

• Casa Mane Art Centre – situated in La Oliva the centre has art works created by artists from Fuerteventura and the other Canary Islands, including works by famous local artist Alberto Manrique. The gallery also has a collection of contemporary pieces, landscaped gardens, and a sculpture courtyard. Open daily 10.30 to 18.00, seasonal variations. Free admission.  
• Museum of Sacred Art - a mixture of religious art works, paintings, sculptures, gold items and silverware. Admission to the museum also includes entry to the nearby Iglesia de Santa Maria church. Open Monday to Saturday, 10.00 to 17.00. 

Cultural activities in Fuerteventura

• Carnaval – takes place in late February/beginning of March. Traditional carnival activities such as fairground rides and food stalls attract thousands of tourists each year.  
• National Day Festival – a public holiday celebrating the Spain’s national day with many lively events and parties taking place across the island.  
• International Kite Festival – taking place in Mid-November it is a famous festival that attracts some of the best Kite flyers from all over Europe. Around 250 Kites are displayed throughout the festival and there are also impressive flying displays.  
• Other festivals: International Jazz Festival, Fuerteventura Music Festival, Corpus Christi. 

Historic monuments in Fuerteventura

• American Star Shipwreck – Located on the western side of the island, this rusting shipwreck is one of the island's most haunting and eerie landmarks. It was once a major ocean liner in the USA, destined to become a luxury floating hotel in Thailand, but on its way to its final destination during a storm in 1994, the ship became grounded on the island, splitting in half. Exploration is very dangerous, as much debris lies around the liner.  
• Los Lobos Island - Los Lobos Island is an important nature reserve on the island. Its home to many nesting seabirds, migrating birds, and more than 120 different species of plants. You can get to Los Lobos Island by ferry and on the island there is also many walking trails and coastal views.  

Shopping in Fuerteventura

• Shopping possibilities in Fuerteventura are plentiful, ranging from quaint markets to large shopping centres. The markets are the best place to find bargains on gifts, as well as fresh produce and hot snacks. The main shopping centres on the island are: Puerto del Rosario, Corralero, Caleta de Fuste, and Morro Jable.

• Water sports such as Scuba Diving, Snorkelling and Wind Surfing are popular on the island, with many resorts offering lessons and equipment hire. Sailing is also possible, and there are many yachts and boats available to hire, with or without a crew.

• 1_Fuerteventura Grand Tour – A bus will pick you up from your resort and take you on a tour of the island, including the old capital of Fuerteventura: You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable tour guide who will tell you about the history of the island and answer any questions you might have. Lunch is included in the cost.
• 2_Oasis Park – is a very popular attraction on the island: There’s a huge tropical garden, many types of tropical birds and an African Savannah section numerous exotic African animals. There are many shows throughout the day including sea lions shows, parrot shows, and reptile shows, as well as the Camel Safari which takes groups on camels up to the La Lajita Valley.
