Museums in Menorca

• Museum of Menorca – situated in the former cloister of a 15th-century Franciscan monastery, rhe museum includes numerous works of art, archaeological relics, prehistoric artefacts, as well as artefacts from Roman, Byzantine, Arabic, Muslim and Talayotic periods. Open: Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 14.00 and 18.30 to 20.30, and Sunday from 10.00 to 14.00.  
• Diocese Museum - situated in Ciutadella in a former Augustinian convent with numerous exhibits and interesting collections, including prehistoric relics, historic artefacts, bronze casting, Catalonian paintings. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30 to 13.30.  
• Other museums: Museum of Nature, Municipal Museum of Ciutadella.

• Many exhibitions take place at the Castell de Sant Nicolau throughout the year.  

Cultural activities in Menorca

• Carnival – In February and March fancy dress balls are held to mark the end of the Carnival before Lent. The most spectacular fiesta takes place in Palma.  
• Sant Agustin – on August 28th in Felantix, this fiesta includes horse-riding shows and dancing.  
• Processio de la Beata – on the first Sunday in September in Santa Margalida, there is a procession of floats and people dressed in folk costume honouring Sant Catalina. 

Historic monuments in Menorca

• Castell de Sant Nicolau - this 17th-century castle was originally built as a watch tower to protect the harbour. It has a working drawbridge and stunning views of the sea, and it’s also the perfect place to watch sunsets over the harbour. There are also various exhibitions at the castle throughout the year.  
• Military Governor's House - this is without doubt one of the most splendid buildings in the whole of Menorca and is still used by the army. It was built in the mid 18th century and is well worth a visit, however can only be viewed from the outside  
• Other: Cales Coves, Placa Esplanada. 

Shopping in Menorca

• Most of the shops in Menorca can be found nearer to the coast and along the beaches. There are many small independent shops, as well as food shops and local markets selling fresh produce and local gifts and souvenirs at reasonable prices.  

Day trip

• 1_Menorca Harbour Tours - one of the best ways to see and photograph the views of the coast is from a boat: Harbour tours last around an hour and tickets are available from the nearby Xoriguer Gin Distillery.
• 2_Xoriguer Distillery – this 18th-century distillery is located on the Moll de Ponent harbour front: Here one can see the enormous copper stills, bubbling to produce the spirit, which is then blended with juniper berries to make the distinctive and fragrant Balearic gin. It also produces other liqueurs, all of which can be sampled on site and purchased from the distillery shop. Open Monday to Friday from 08.00 to 19.00, and Saturday from 09.00 to 13.00.
• 3_Menorca Waterfront - Take a stroll along the waterfront at Mao and witness its colour and interest: There are many unique Balearic fishing boats, constructed in an ancient Arab design, attractive houses built into the cliffs, various caves and shops.

Group activities

• 1_Es Freginal Park – located in the centre of Mao is a large green park and gardens, with many areas to sit, flower displays, and lawns, and is often used for cultural events in Menorca: There’s also a stage that is frequently used by musicians, especially during the summer festival.
