• 1_La Alberca, Candelario and Castañar: mountain range of France: At 1,048 metres above sea level, La Alberca is the most emblematic small town of the province. Situated in the mountain range of France it has been a National Artistic and Historical monument since 1940. The river Batuecas runs through the municipal district of La Alberca. It has a special micro-climate. The Castañar and Candelario are places that are worth a visit.
• 2_Las Arribes del Duero: Las Arribes del Duero are on the Northwest of the province. The main characteristic of this region is its natural environment, with the river Douro as the main feature, acting as a frontier between Spain and Portugal.
• 3_Ciudad Rodrigo: Ciudad Rodrigo is on the right of the river Águeda and although it dates back to neolithic days, its period of biggest splendour was in the 15th and 16th centuries. The walled monuments of the town have an extraordinary beauty.
• 4_Alba de Tormes: At 21 km of Salamanca it is Alba de Tormes. A large number of churches and convents were built in this area. Saint Teresa of Jesús is buried in the Temple and Monastery of the Carmelitas Descalzas. You can visit the cells, where she suffered the illness that later caused her death. In the church, you can see the tomb of the saint.
