Exploring Nyhavn port in Denmark
If you've seen any photos or postcards of Copenhagen, maybe you have seen colorful houses and boats along a canal named Nyhavn. This port is surrounded by 17th century buildings, considered one of the most emblematic places in Copenhagen. There you can find different shops with local food, drinks, and souvenirs, among others. Plus, you can explore it on a low budget, like the locals do, buying a hot dog from a cart along with a beer to spend time admiring the canal.
One of the most popular attractions to sightseeing in Copenhagen is the monument at the entrance to the canal. Which is an anchor called Mindeankeret placed in honor the nearly 2,000 Danish sailors who lost their lives during World War II. Also, you can see the houses (18 and 20) where the famous writer Hans Christian Andersen lived and wrote the famous tale The Princess and the Pea. But if you want to plan a more fun experience, you can take a boat ride along the canal or go on an excursion to the nearby islands, finding a boat tour in this port. So, get there with the Copenhagen metro line M3 to Kongens Nytorv station, or using bus lines 1A, 26, 40 and 350S.
Experience the Tivoli Gardens
If you are looking for a unique place to spend the day, especially for fans of amusement parks, explore the old Tivoli Gardens. It opened in 1843 and is one of the oldest in the world, offering different attractions such as roller coasters, gardens and live shows. So if you are looking for some adrenaline or a quiet walk through beautiful gardens, this is the perfect place for you. It’s a must-see in the city center next to our NH Copenhagen Grand Joanne hotel and the København H central train station (metro lines M1 and M2).
The attractions are only open between April and September, for climatic reasons, but from November to December one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe is set up. In addition, at the entrance to the park you can see the statue of George Carstensen, and see some very interesting buildings such as the Pagoda, a Chinese-style building that houses a restaurant. Also the Frigate of St. George, which is a ship with a floating restaurant, and the Pantomina Theatre. Moreover, the main gate to the park on Vesterbrogade, is an architectural spectacle and the perfect place for unforgettable photos.
“The Little Mermaid” in the center of Copenhagen
This is one of the most famous and touristy top things to do in Copenhagen, it involves visiting the bronze statue of “The Little Mermaid” in the Langelinie harbour. This is a 1.50m bronze statue inspired by the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is one of the main tourist attractions in the city, and from there you can take a little walk to Kastellet, the famous Copenhagen fortress. Where you can have picnics, ride your bicycle, and enjoy beautiful views of the sea on a quiet day in the heart of the city.
The statue is located in a strategic point of the city and is accessible both on foot and by public transport. So if you want to get there from the metro you can do so via lines M1 or M2 to Kongens Nytorv station. Or by using bus lines 23, 30, 40, 50S and 190 which leave you about 5 minutes from the statue.
Visiting the Rosenborg Castle
Rosenborg Castle is one of the places to see in Copenhagen, located in the city center, built at the beginning of the 17th century. There you can learn about the history of the Danish monarchies and walk through the halls of the palace. Seeing pieces like jewels, clothes, amulets, and weapons that are still intact from the 15th and 19th centuries. Also, entering places like the Long Hall, where you can see very impressive paintings, sculptures, and tapestries.
The great attraction of this castle is that it houses an invaluable collection of royal jewels, including the royal crown. But another of the great attractions are its gardens because they are a true paradise to enjoy the sun and the landscapes and summer. To get there you must go to Øster Voldgade 4A, taking the metro lines M1 and M2 to the Nørreport Station.
